Dear Every Single Person Who Has Ever Commented on My Posts,
I, am fired. Seriously. Out the back door, pink slip in my sorry hand.
Let me start by formally announcing that I have no business blogging. Seriously. So many wonderfully patient blogging veterans have stepped in to give me advice and teach me some ropes. Among them are my go-to Kelli from She Crab Soup, Lady Sarah from Venus Trapped in Mars, lovely Bonnie from The Life of Bon, and my girl Jenni from Story of my Life (I know I’m missing some of you, but I will be doing love letter posts for all of you very soon).
Today’s post, however, was prompted by the lovely and fabulous Helene (otherwise known as Superwoman) over at Helene in Between. I mean, this girl is the cat’s pajamas.
She not only runs this crazy successful blog, but she manages to come and write genuine, thoughtful comments on all of the posts published by little bloggers such as myself. She has been publicly called The Queen of Commenting. I therefore consider her an expert to be held in highest stead.
Today she wandered over to my wee blog and left me a golden nugget of profound Helene wisdom. She said, and I quote “hey! just FYI, when you comment here I don’t see it, it doesn’t go to my email. So i would have to come back here to see your response.”
Crikey! My world just turned on its side! I’m supposed to send the comments to your emails? Oh WordPress, how you do confound me! I have been commenting in the actual comment thread! I swear I reply to all of your comments! I’m so sorry! I’m a newbie! I made such an egregious uh oh! And y’all were probably sitting here thinking “What a snatch! She never responds, and I am so not commenting on her stupid posts anymore”.
So I learned something very valuable today. We all just want to feel acknowledged and validated. And by replying to your comments directly to your email that you provide me when you comment, I am acknowledging you and saying “hey, I love you, and thank you for reading”. It’s kind of the same reason we blog, right? If we’re being honest? To feel acknowledged and validated?
I have always elected to reply in the comments so that readers could see that I do participate in the discussions. But then in turn the ones who commented don’t know I am discussing! It’s a tragedy of Elizabethan proportions.
SO, my sweet, wonderful, fabulous readers. I am so sorrowful that I have, in the past, not made you to feel that I appreciate your comments. I swear on my GLORIOUS new wedding dress (more on that shortly) that was never my intent. I love all of your comments so much. I seriously check my email and the second I see a comment notification I get this goofy smile and spring in my step. And waking up to comments? Oh my pudding, the best. I don’t even need coffee. Ok that’s a rat fink lie but it sounded nice.
Anyway, I need to figure out a way to set up commenting in WordPress so that when I reply to your comment it sends a copy to your email address. Until then I will be replying in the comments and then copying it to your email manually.
I heart you all, sweet commenters!
