I received the nicest, most unusual compliment at work yesterday. As I was packing up her rotisserie chicken, a woman said to me “You don’t eat meat, do you?” I blushed and immediately went on the defensive. At my place of employment, which should welcome my diet choices, surprisingly, I have been discouraged from disclosing to patrons that I prefer to eat plants over animals, even when they ask me which roast beef is my favorite. I hesitantly replied “I don’t. How did you know?” Her answer? “It’s obvious. Vegetarians have this light, this energy about them – a certain glow. I admire that.” The smile from that one has persisted through this fabulously relaxing Sunday off.
